How to buy US PSN games outside of the US

Video games is an awesome hobby but it’s an expensive one as well, especially when so many good games are coming out that you just can’t skip.
If you are outside the US, you probably already know you are paying a higher price for most of the games you buy from your countries PSN Store, but not many people know you are not restricted to your allocated store.
With just a few simple steps, you can buy games at US prices and save a ton of money like we did! So here is how you do it.

Step one: Open a US PSN Account

First of all, we need to open a new PSN account with a US address to access the US Store. Note that we cannot use the same mail of your previous PSN account so you might need to open a new Email address for this.

The trick here is to fill in a valid US address to have a US PSN account, We found that using a hotel’s address is the easiest way to get a valid address.
*Notice that there are some states that tax digital sales, try using an address in Oregon/New Hampshire.

Now that you are all set, go ahead and create a new account by clicking the “New user” button in the login section and then click on “Create a new user”.
From there follow the simple steps in creating a new account with the address we just pulled from the web.

Step two: Adding money to your accounts wallet

Hurray! you can now enter the US PSN store with your newly created account, but we’re not done yet!
The problem is that if you don’t have a credit card or a PayPal account that’s linked to a bank account in a US-based bank, you cannot add these payment methods to your PSN account.
So to add currency to your accounts wallet we need to use prepaid PSN cards we purchase online and redeem them in our US PSN account.

The best place to purchase prepaid PSN cards is amazon.com since they don’t charge extra fees for delivery/handling so you pay a 1/1 rate. Click here for the official SCEA card page on Amazon.

For that you need an Amazon account, and again, you need an account with a valid US address to buy the prepaid US PSN cards (Be sure you buy cards for the US store and not for other regions).
Same as we created the US PSN account, to buy a US PSN card we need to create an Amazon account with a valid US address (you can use the same address we pulled from before).
If you already have an Amazon account you can add another shipping address to your accounts address book and before you purchase the card, choose the US address as the shipping address.
*You can skip this part by buying cards from other websites like g2a.com or pcgamesupply.com but note that they charge extra fees.

Choose the amount of money you want to add to your wallet (PSN cards go for 10$/20$/50$/60$/75$/100$) and complete the purchase (Don’t forget to change the shipping address to the US address if you have serval addresses linked to your account!).
After completing the purchase you will receive an email with a fresh 12 digit redeem code.
Now go ahead and enter the PSN store on your newly created US account and head to the “Redeem codes” tab and just copy the code you received into the code field, click “Continue” and then “Confirm” and Viola! You can go ahead and start making some sweet game purchases!

Optional step: Setting your US account as your primary PS4 account

Now that you have a working US PSN account with games on it you can go ahead and start playing but if you had a previous account linked to your PS4 chances are that it’s your primary PSN account.
This means that right now you are restricted to play your newly purchased games only when you are logged into your US PSN account.
If you want to play these games with your already existing account you can do that with a simple settings adjustment.
While logged into your US PSN account just go to the “Playstation Network/Account management” tab under the “Settings” icon on the main menu.
From there go to “Activate as Your Primary PS4” and click on “Activate”.
Now you can play your US PSN account’s purchased games from any account that’s logged into your PS4 system.

And that’s it people! now you can start buying games smartly and save some bucks!
Be sure to toggle between store regions and look for price cuts since they change between each region, so you know you get the best deal you can.
